To shed light on the co-occurrence of depression in cataplectic narcolepsy, in narcolepsy without cataplexy, and in idiopathic hypersomnia, researchers recruited 517 patients older than 15 who had received one of these three central hypersomnia diagnoses based on polysomnography and on testing for excessive daytime sleepiness and multiple sleep latency. Patients completed in-person interviews to document severity of excessive daytime sleepiness, cataplexy, sleep quality, health status, and treatment response.
