Although the incidence of psychogenic nonepileptic seizures (PNESs) in the general population is considered fairly low, its prevalence in epilepsy units is relatively high (15%–30%). In patients with epileptic seizures (ESs), adverse effects of antiepileptic drugs and depression severity — but not seizure frequency — are correlated with reduced health-related quality of life (HRQOL). To examine whether similar associations exist in patients with PNES, researchers studied 49 patients with PNES (37 females; mean age, 37), 3 of whom had mixed ES/PNES.
