In the prediction of mortality and short-term outcomes in patients with intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH), the ICH score is a simple, reliable, broadly accepted grading scale. The score is a composite of admission level of consciousness (Glasgow Coma Scale score), age, and initial neuroimaging findings (hematoma volume, location, and intraventricular hemorrhage). The ICH score was developed retrospectively and, until now, had not been validated for prediction of long-term functional outcome. In this study, the original developers of the score prospectively tested whether the baseline ICH score reliably stratifies patients by their 12-month modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score.
