POEMS (polyneuropathy, organomegaly, endocrinopathy, monoclonal gammopathy, skin changes) syndrome is a rare disorder that has been associated anecdotally with cerebral infarctions. Until now, no large trials have been conducted to document the association of POEMS syndrome and cerebral ischemic events.
Using a database of 208 patients who received diagnoses of POEMS at one institution over a 35-year period, researchers retrospectively reviewed data from 90 patients diagnosed between 2000 and August 31, 2008.
