Several sets of diagnostic criteria for CIDP with varying degrees of specificity and sensitivity have been developed, but all are probably useful for both clinical management and research.
These authors retrospectively compared the sensitivities and specificities of three published sets of diagnostic criteria for chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) in patients diagnosed with CIDP at four European centers. All patients reportedly had had proximal and distal weakness of more than one limb for at least 2 months, and 76.9% had had elevated protein in cerebrospinal fluid. Of 151 patients, 94.4% had responded to treatment. Controls were 162 patients with chronic distal sensory or sensorimotor axonal neuropathy. The authors applied three sets of criteria to the patients: those of Koski and colleagues (J Neurol Sci 2009; 277:1), those of the European Federation of Neurological Societies/Peripheral Nerve Society (…
