Sleep is as vital to good health as water and nutrition. Disrupted sleep has a strong association with reduced cognitive abilities in children. However, the impact of sleep on infant development has been little studied. Now, researchers have conducted a comprehensive review of the literature on the association of infant sleep parameters with cognitive, psychomotor, and temperament development during the first year of life.
The authors identified 13 studies that examined sleep in infants and mental development; the Bayley Scale of Infant Development was used in 10 of these.
