After traumatic brain injury (TBI), the rates, predictors, and outcomes of depression, and the effectiveness of its treatment, remain uncertain despite extensive research. To improve our understanding of depression after TBI, researchers conducted structured phone interviews of a cohort of English-speaking patients older than 18 who were hospitalized for level-1 TBI (Glasgow Coma Scale score <13 and radiological evidence of acute injury). The nine interviews were conducted at months 1 through 6, 8, 10, and 12 and included the depression and anxiety modules of the Patient Health Questionnaire and the European Quality of Life (QOL) questionnaire.
