Transient ischemic attack (TIA) confers a high short-term risk for stroke. However, most TIA patients are not at impending stroke risk, so identifying those at highest risk could improve clinical outcomes while optimizing the use of generally limited resources. ABCD2, a validated prediction scale, uses clinical features at the time of presentation to stratify early stroke risk among TIA patients, but mounting data suggest that incorporating imaging information into this score may boost predictive accuracy (JW Neurol Apr 29 2008).
