Neurothrombectomy Devices for Acute Ischemic Stroke

Currently available neurothrombectomy devices are associated with high rates of recanalization and relatively low rates of harm, according to a meta-analysis.

Since a meta-analysis of studies of mechanical thrombectomy was published in 2008 (Arch Neurol 2008; 65:1024), clinical experience with this procedure has grown. In a new meta-analysis, researchers identified 87 published studies of mechanical thrombectomy devices for treating patients with acute ischemic stroke: 18 prospective cohort studies (3 with blinded assessment of outcomes), 7 noncomparative retrospective studies, and 62 case series or reports.
