Although early aneurysm treatment is effective, rebleeding remains a major problem because it often happens within hours of the initial rupture, before the aneurysm can be secured. Rebleeding is associated with high mortality, although the specific causes of death have not been well studied. It might also lead to more-severe and accelerated vasospasm, which can cause delayed cerebral ischemia (DCI).
