Aseptic meningitis is diagnosed when the cerebrospinal fluid of patients with suspected meningitis contains white blood cells, with negative testing for common bacteria. Drugs that have been associated with aseptic meningitis include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, azathioprine, carbamazepine, immunoglobulin, isoniazid, penicillin, and ranitidine.
