Growing awareness of the incidence and impact of depression during pregnancy has contributed to increasing use of SSRIs by pregnant women. Studies to date have not demonstrated an association between maternal SSRI use and fetal deformity or other gross measures (Am J Obstet Gynecol 2003; 188:812), but some have suggested that prenatal SSRI exposure may affect newborn neurobehavior. These authors systematically compared neurobehavioral outcomes between full-term newborns with prenatal SSRI exposure and those without such exposure.
