Studies have documented the cognitive problems that may result from mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). A minority of individuals have poor recoveries, but it has been difficult to predict who will be in this group. Some researchers have shown a relation between the presence of the ε4 allele of the APOE gene and poorer recovery, but these studies have relied on comparisons with noninjured controls. The authors of the current study examined deficits within individuals after mild TBI.
