Many individuals who have suffered a traumatic brain injury complain of cognitive difficulties. Up to two thirds of such patients have been reported to develop major depression. However, the relation between these factors is little understood: To what degree are the cognitive problems related to emotional difficulties? To assess this interaction, researchers at a university-based TBI clinic carefully evaluated 63 consecutive patients who had sustained mild or moderate TBI 6 months earlier (mean age, 33; 56% male).
