Patients with bipolar disorder have notoriously poor vocational outcomes. In previous research, interpersonal and social rhythm therapy (IPSRT) in bipolar patients decreased suicidality, shortened time to remission of depression, and prolonged time to recurrence. IPSRT targets medication nonadherence, stressful life events, and disruptions in social rhythms or routines. To compare IPSRT with intensive clinical management (ICM) in a randomized study of occupational functioning, investigators used a four-cell design (2 intervention arms in acute and maintenance phases).
