Cognitive-behavioral therapy is an evidence-based treatment for bulimia nervosa and binge-eating disorder. Appreciating that many patients with eating disorders also have mood, personality, and interpersonal impairments, investigators studied the efficacy of “transdiagnostic” CBT in 154 patients (body-mass index, >17.5) with bulimia nervosa (38%) or eating disorder not otherwise specified (62%); 4.7% also had binge-eating disorder, and 19% had histories of anorexia nervosa.
