In previous stages of the Treatment for Adolescents With Depression Study (TADS), combined treatment of fluoxetine plus cognitive-behavioral therapy sped recovery from depression (maximum benefit at week 18) compared with either monotherapy (maximum benefit: fluoxetine, week 30; CBT, week 36); all three treatments improved outcomes from 12 weeks to 36 weeks (JW Psychiatry Dec 17 2007 and Oct 6 2004). Also, CBT alone or added to fluoxetine minimized persistent suicidal ideation and treatment-emergent suicidal events.
