Many children with obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) are stabilized on selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) but still experience residual symptoms. To see whether cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) or manual-based instruction in CBT could treat these symptoms, researchers conducted a multisite, 12-week study of children ages 7 to 17 years after comprehensive assessments that verified stable SSRI treatment and sufficient residual symptoms.
