In 2011, several studies addressed issues of comorbidity between psychiatric and medical illness. At the same time, structural changes in the medical world — the advent of primary-care–focused “medical homes,” accountable care organizations (ACOs), and integrated mental health care — may bring new roles for psychiatrists.
