Diagnostic validity of intermittent explosive disorder. Intermittent explosive disorder and associated syndromes of impulsive aggression, occurring in 5% to 7% of the U.S. population, have been the subject of increasing numbers of studies focusing on these disorders' phenomenology, taxonomy, comorbidity, epidemiology, clinical course, related family issues, neurobiology, and treatment.
