Data that 16% of people aged 10 to 24 report having seriously contemplated suicide and that 157,000 annually receive emergency treatment for self-injury (http://viajwat.ch/RKvh56) underscore the need to investigate environmental risks. To accomplish this, professional surveyors conducted telephone interviews with parents and children, selected by random digit dialing, at baseline and 2 years later. Of the adolescents participating in the baseline assessment (age range, 10–17), 57% completed the second (N=1186). Parents answered questions on demographics and on whether their children had mood or anxiety diagnoses.
