Alzheimer's disease (AD), which is a neurodegenerative disorder, and vascular disorders are the most common causes of dementia: Many AD patients also have cerebrovascular disease and arterial hypertension. Therapy with the acetylcholinesterase inhibitor galantamine (trade name, Reminyl) benefits patients with AD; this study was designed to investigate whether galantamine also benefits patients with probable vascular dementia or with AD plus cerebrovascular disease.
