Increasingly, the medical literature and public media are drawing attention to androgen deficiency, particularly in older men. The Endocrine Society has now published a timely evidence-based practice guideline on the evaluation and treatment of androgen deficiency in adult men. Key recommendations are as follows:
• Androgen deficiency should be diagnosed only in men with unequivocally low serum testosterone levels and clinical presentation consistent with the diagnosis.
• The authors recommend against screening for androgen deficiency in the general population.
