To more precisely identify the 6-month risk for MI and death among patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS), researchers conducted this large, prospective study. Over a 6-year period, extensive data were collected on 43,810 ACS patients at 94 hospitals in 14 countries. Data from half the patients were used to derive a prediction tool; data from the other half were used to validate it.
In both the derivation and validation groups, 9% of patients died and about 6% had nonfatal MIs during 6 months of follow-up.
