Approximately 18% of women and 6% of men have migraines. In the Women’s Health Study, an association was found between migraines with aura and major ischemic cardiovascular disease (CVD; Journal Watch Aug 22 2006); an association in men has not been shown. In a cohort of 20,084 men aged 40–84 enrolled in the Physician’s Health Study, researchers assessed the association between migraines and CVD. The 7% of enrollees who reported migraines during the first 5 years of the study were classified as cases; information on aura was not available.
