Morton neuroma — an entrapment neuropathy with fibrosis and edema, rather than a true neuroma — is a frequent cause of pain in the toes and distal foot. Most commonly, the interdigital nerve between the third and fourth toe is involved. Orthotics, steroid injections, and surgery are among the proposed interventions for this problem.
In this study of 101 patients with Morton neuroma, U.K. researchers describe treatment with ultrasound-guided injections of ethyl alcohol plus bupivacaine. Most patients received a total of four injections, given at 14-day intervals.
