Transient tachypnea of the newborn (TTN) is a common condition caused by a delay in alveolar fluid reabsorption from the lungs at or around the time of birth. Tachypnea resolves spontaneously within a few days after birth and is thought to result in no sequelae. This study’s findings call that assumption into question.
Nearly 13,000 full-term babies born in 1995 in Manitoba, Canada, were followed for 7 years for the presence of a wheezing syndrome (defined as bronchiolitis, acute or chronic bronchitis, asthma, or having a prescription for an asthma medication).
