Many patients with hyperlipidemia fail to reach their targets because of inadequate treatment and suboptimal adherence to medical and lifestyle recommendations. In this industry-funded randomized study involving 3053 patients, Canadian researchers assessed whether providing patients with coronary risk profiles would improve lipid control. Half of the patients received usual care; the others received a profile that estimated their 8-year probability of developing coronary artery disease and the difference between their actual age and “cardiovascular age.” Both groups received quarterly follow-up for 1 year.
