Patients with significant left main coronary artery disease have traditionally been treated with coronary artery bypass grafting, but recent advances in percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) have intensified interest in left main PCI, even for vessels that are not “protected” by a prior CABG. Korean researchers compared outcomes in 1102 patients who underwent PCI and in 1138 who underwent CABG for left main disease.
In this nonrandomized comparison, CABG patients were significantly older and had more risk factors than did PCI patients.
