National, population-based data on the effect of pelvic floor disorders are lacking. These investigators assessed the prevalence of marked urinary incontinence, fecal incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse in 1961 nonpregnant women (age, ≥20) who participated in a large national health-status survey in 2005–2006. Participants were evaluated by validated self-report questionnaires and physical examinations.
Overall, 24% of women reported at least one disorder. Nearly 16% experienced urinary incontinence, 9% experienced fecal incontinence, and 3% experienced pelvic organ prolapse.
