Treatment of selected premature infants with palivizumab (Synagis) to prevent respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) infection is effective, but whether the requisite monthly injections are best given at home or in the ambulatory care setting is unclear. These investigators used the Palivizumab Outcomes Registry, a database that encompasses 256 pediatric sites in 41 states, to assess treatment adherence and RSV hospitalization rates in 18,867 high-risk infants during four RSV seasons; 1226 infants received treatment at home, and the others received treatment in outpatient settings. The study was supported by the drug’s manufacturer.
