Most published literature on the accuracy of coronary computed tomography angiography is based on single-center trials. In this multicenter trial, researchers compared the accuracy of multidetector (64-detector) CT with that of invasive coronary angiography among 291 patients with suspected symptomatic coronary artery disease. Patients with Agatston calcium scores of >600 were excluded, and stenoses of ≥50% were considered positive.
The overall prevalence of obstructive CAD was 56%. Compared with invasive coronary angiography for detection of stenoses, the sensitivity of CT was 85%, specificity was 90%, and positive and negative predictive values were 91% and 83%.
