Injury rates among female soccer players are similar to those among male players (although anterior cruciate ligament injuries are more common in young female players than in their male counterparts). In this randomized trial from Norway, researchers evaluated a comprehensive warm-up program for prevention of soccer injuries in teen girls (age range, 13–17) who were members of 125 soccer clubs.
During one season, 65 clubs were assigned to receive the intervention, which consisted of running exercises at slow speed with active stretching and controlled contacts; strength, balance, and jumping exercises; and speed running combined with soccer-specific movements.
