Observational studies have suggested that supplementation with vitamins C and E or selenium is associated with lower risk for developing prostate cancer. Results are in from two trials in which researchers explored this relation.
In the first study, 35,533 men (age, ≥50) who had no history or current evidence of prostate cancer were randomized to daily selenium (200 µg), vitamin E (400 IU), both, or neither. Participants were encouraged to undergo annual prostate cancer screening; roughly 85% underwent annual prostate-specific antigen (PSA) exams, and 70% had annual rectal exams.
