The Framingham risk score, which includes classic risk factors for cardiovascular (CV) disease such as age, sex, blood pressure, cholesterol level, and smoking status, has been validated for people younger than 75. Novel biomarkers also have been used to predict CV risk. But are the Framingham risk score and novel biomarkers predictive of CV disease risk in very old people? To answer this question, investigators conducted this observational, population-based, prospective study of a cohort of 305 very old Dutch people (207 women; 87 men; age, 85) who did not have CV disease.
