Many studies of the menopausal transition are limited by their cross-sectional design. Now, two longitudinal studies of women progressing through the menopausal transition provide additional — and surprising — information.
In the first study, investigators reanalyzed data from >400 white Australian women who were followed for 13 years. Analysis of participants who reported bothersome menopausal symptoms showed that the mean duration of hot flashes was 5.2 years among women who never used hormone therapy and 5.5 years when HT users were included.
