An estimated half of all women who undergo coronary angiography do not have obstructive coronary artery disease. Using data from two studies, researchers compared rates of cardiovascular events among symptomatic women with nonobstructed (1%–49% stenosis) or normal coronary arteries on angiography and asymptomatic women free of known CAD. The 540 symptomatic women were followed for 5 years; the 1000 asymptomatic age- and race-matched controls were followed for 10 years. The mean age of the study population was 55.
