The U.S. Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has approved the adult immunization schedule for 2010. Recommended vaccines are influenza; pneumococcus; tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Td/Tdap); hepatitis A and B; measles, mumps, rubella (MMR); varicella; meningococcus; human papillomavirus (HPV); and zoster. Changes are noted in the schedule's footnotes and are as follows:
Either bivalent or quadrivalent HPV vaccine can be administered to women. The quadrivalent vaccine can be administered for genital wart prevention in young men.
A second dose of MMR should be given 4 weeks after the initial dose. Healthcare workers born before 1957 should be vaccinated if they do not have laboratory evidence of immunity or disease.
