In patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA), medial knee loading is a risk factor for disease progression. Lateral wedge insoles attenuate medial knee loading, but do they reduce pain and risk for disease progression? In this randomized controlled trial, investigators in Australia used magnetic resonance imaging to assess the effects of lateral wedge insoles on symptoms and structural outcomes in 200 patients (age, ≥50) with clinical and radiographic mild-to-moderate medial knee OA.
