Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding are the most widely performed bariatric surgery procedures. Another alternative, less well known to primary care physicians, is sleeve gastrectomy (SG) — partial gastrectomy in which most of the stomach's greater curvature is resected. In this observational study of data from a Michigan bariatric surgery registry, researchers used propensity score matching to compare these procedures. Each of the three matched groups had 3000 patients with similar demographic and clinical characteristics.
