Late adverse effects of hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) include secondary tumors, cataracts, pulmonary problems, and infertility. Recently, the prevalence of diabetes and hypertension also were reported to be high in survivors of allogeneic, but not autologous, HSCT (Blood 2007; 109:1765). Stroke and heart attack also might be late sequelae of transplantation.
