Recent interim reports from two major studies raise new questions about prostate-specific antigen (PSA)-based screening (JW Gen Med Sep 27 2007). Although the controversy surrounding this issue continues, the current screening paradigm will be left largely intact, and clinicians will be left with uncertainties about which patients have lethal phenotypes of prostate cancer.
