Since the International Adjuvant Lung Cancer Trial (N Engl J Med 2004; 350:351), the thoracic oncology community has widely accepted adjuvant chemotherapy for stage II and III non–small-cell lung cancers (NSCLCs), despite some inconsistencies among clinical trials. To examine this issue further, the NSCLC Meta-Analyses Collaborative Group undertook two meta-analyses partially funded by industry to assess survival (1) after surgery with or without adjuvant chemotherapy and (2) after surgery and radiotherapy with or without chemotherapy.
