After adjuvant therapy for breast cancer, patients may have complaints that reflect the residual effects of surgery, radiation therapy, and adjuvant chemotherapy. Persistent cancer-related fatigue (CRF) has been reported by as many as 40% of disease-free breast cancer survivors, even years after they complete treatment. Clinicians test for other possible causes of fatigue, including anemia, hypothyroidism, weight gain, and depression or anxiety, but often patients are merely left with the advice to exercise more, be patient, and realize that their fatigue is no different than that of other busy people.
