Relapsing nephrotic syndrome is a frustrating and poorly understood childhood condition, and immunologic stimuli are thought to play a role in relapses. In a cohort of 106 patients with nephrotic syndrome (age, <18 years) from the U.K., where a national meningococcal C conjugate vaccine program was recently initiated, investigators examined relapse rates in the 12 months before and the 12 months after vaccination.
In the 24-month observation period, 47 children had at least one nephrotic relapse -- 63 relapses occurred before and 96 occurred after vaccination.
