In 2006, the FDA Drug Safety and Risk Management Advisory Committee recommended a “black box” warning describing the cardiovascular risks of stimulant drugs used to treat ADHD (Journal Watch Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine Apr 7 2006). To examine the relation between stimulant use and cardiac death, hospitalization, or emergency department (ED) visits for cardiac causes, investigators cross-linked 10 years of Florida Medicaid claims data to vital statistics data among 55,383 children (age range, 3–20 years) who were newly diagnosed with ADHD.
