Adolescents with a parental history of depression are at high risk for developing depression. One study demonstrated the effectiveness of group cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) in preventing depression in such youths. In a four-city generalizability trial, investigators randomized 316 adolescents (age range, 13–17 years; 25% from minority groups) to eight weekly 90-minute group CBT sessions followed by six monthly sessions or usual care (which could include mental health care).
