The titration phase for stimulant medications (methylphenidate and amphetamine) for children and youth with ADHD typically takes 2 to 4 weeks. In contrast, the effect of the nonstimulant atomoxetine on core ADHD symptoms can take 6 to 8 weeks. In an industry-funded study, investigators pooled data from six randomized controlled studies to identify predictors of response to atomoxetine before 6 to 8 weeks. Of 1069 patients (age range, 6-18 years), 618 were randomized to atomoxetine.
