A screening test for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) should be inexpensive, minimally invasive, and accurate. In a retrospective chart review of 304 children (age, <21 years) who had undergone IBD testing at a single pediatric gastrointestinal clinic in Massachusetts, researchers compared predictive values of the IBD Serology 7 panel (IBD7) — which includes specific markers for IBD (including anti-CBir1) and a pattern recognition algorithm — with routine laboratory tests (hemoglobin level, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, and platelet count).
