Prolonged bottle-feeding in children can lead to negative consequences, including dental caries and iron deficiency. Parents often find bottle-feeding one of the most difficult habits for children to break, especially for older toddlers. To assess a brief educational intervention designed to prevent bottle use at age 2 years, researchers in Toronto randomized parents of 251 infants who presented for a 9-month well-child visit at a single community pediatric practice to receive standardized nutrition counseling with or without counseling about how to quickly stop bottle use.
